Understanding 17.22 Voltage selection in a logic circuit in v 1.4.7

Hi Tsung Hsien or any reader,

I feel a little hard to understand the problem of 17.22.

in the picture 17.8 how does the voltage number calculated?

let’s take (a) as an example, why it is 1+23+1+23+1 = 15 ?

I just realized how it computes. so cv means every node’s number of children.

This problem is originated from a real research problem which eventually solved by DP. We include this in the book but forget to better explanation of the figure. Gratefully you still get it by your own.
